Case Reports Writing Workshops

INVITATION

The Foundation is happy to continue the Case Report Writing Workshop in 2026.

The intention of the workshop is to empower Somatic Touch and Movement Practitioners (and/or Students) to write about what they are doing with clients, and what changes they observe in themselves and/or in their client(s).

  • The first step is to write it down.

  • The second step is to explore the writing and utilize clear, concise language free of specific professional 'jargon,' and strive to describe observations of change utilizing some tool of measurement.

These measurement tools can be as simple as client-reported before and after, or practitioner-observed before and after (for example, Gait ease/ speed/ length). Multiple scientific measurement tools exist that can be utilized as well. These include anything from simple questionnaires, to physical measurement of joint angles, to name two.

In each workshop we discuss one aspect of Research/ Writing/ Case Report formats. We often write during the workshop to a spontaneous prompt. Each participant is given the opportunity to read aloud/ share what they have written or a portion of the case report they are working on for the year. The goal is for each participant to submit a completed written Case Report by the end of the year which would be appropriate for posting on the Foundation website. These projects can be formatted as Anecdotal Narratives, Qualitative or Quantitative Case Report.

In 2026, we are taking the process deeper by exploring the use of AI in literature searches to accumulate a body of academic studies supporting the Case Report hypothesis; different formats for Case Reports; Resources available through the Foundation for Somatic Touch website; what elements are needed in various publications, and which publications would we want to submit our report to?

Active participation is expected, there are opportunities for giving and receiving feedback specifically on the craft of writing the Case Report for clarity, relevance, etc. This workshop is open to Somatic Touch and/or Movement professionals of all lineages. It is an ever-evolving workshop and suggestions are welcome.

Case Report Writing Workshops occur on the 4th Wednesday of each month from 7:00-8:30pm Eastern Time, and the 4th Sunday of each month from 8:30-10:00am Eastern Time, by Zoom.
