About Somatics

Somatic touch and movement practices and/or somatic touch and movement therapies recognize the importance of the inherent connection between the body and the brain, often referred to as ‘body-mind’.

The word ‘somatic’ comes from the Greek word ‘soma,’ meaning living body. Many somatic practices have developed specific, unique approaches to this known connection between the body and the brain, finding often astounding changes in physical limitations when touch and movement are combined with conscious awareness of those sensations. Similarly, felt changes in the body affect mental and emotional states.
